HeadlessCowboy's Stock Market
#1
Welcome to HeadlessCowboy's stock market!

Here you can buy preferred and common stock.  The difference between preferred and common stock is:

Preferred stock costs more to buy than par value, has more voting power than normal, and receives dividends.

Common stock costs at par value have normal voting power and do not receive dividends.

Your voting power divided by total voting power is the rate your stock is calculated.

Here are the rates before the market is turned live:

Preferred stock costs $100 per stock and has a voting power of 3.  The amount of dividends is the rate times how many preferred stocks you have.

Common stock costs $25 per stock and has a voting power of 1.  There are no dividends for this type of stock.

The total amount of Preferred Stocks that can be bought at this time is:

2250

The total amount of common Stocks that can be bought at this time is:

10500

Keep in mind that the stock market goes up and down.  As I make money, the stock price goes up.  As I lose money, the stock price goes down.  There will be a set schedule when live trading happens where people can buy and sell in live time.  These will be planned at least 1 week in advance; however, they can be rescheduled within 3 days of the live trading planned time due to real life issues.  Hopefully, i won't have to cancel too late but if I do, I'll send out a $.02 dividend to all preferred stockholders.

Also note: Any 'big' purchases (~25,000+) will be announced at least 24 hours beforehand.

This stock market will be maintained by me, before/after hour tradings will be based on the prism net worth of my account so have a good look there before selling and buying stocks.  Search: HeadlessCowboy

You are able to sell your stocks to someone else, but you must notify me within the week of the selling.  In the notification, you are required to post how many stocks, what kind of stock(s), and the amount you are selling the stocks to them.  And then they are required to confirm this in a forum mail or /msg on the server with the same information.  Keep in mind scamming is against the server rules.  If there is any foul play with this, I will remove it and then you will be only able to trade directly with my account.

If you become inactive for 14 days, then your stocks go off to auction to the highest bidder which will take place in a 24-hour window with mails to me about offers when I announce the auction.  There will be of course a minimum biding but that will only be disclosed after the first round of 24-hour window.

The trading is going live in January.  This gives me more time to make the stocks more valuable when they are bought.  Before the stocks go live you can still buy the stocks at par value (Either $100 preferred or $25 common) to get the best value since stocks will change day by day.

Please note that any of these regulations are subject to change at any time.  I will do my best to notify all of any changes besides stock price.

Also note, this may not be done if Silas doesn't want this to happen since the last thread got locked in the suggestions section of the forums.  IF this doesn't get the go-ahead, then I will refund all pre-purchases of stocks.  This is just a warning.  I would be doing this myself and not relying on server power besides the usual.

If you guys/gals want any changes before this goes live, then send me a mail and i'll see if it can be done.

I want to give feedback on this idea, but before I say anything about this I want to say I can be wrong and that I'm not a stock market genius, what will follow is my opinion.

I am against the idea of "this" particular stock market.

This stock market is completely based off of your server balance and that's pretty much my biggest reason why I am against it. Stock is usually based on something and it's usually based off things people want/value. Sometimes it's based off the success of a company sometimes it's based of gold, silver or something that is rare or has value to people. In any case it's based off what people value it to be. For people who buy shares that don't grant dividends the only way for them to make money is for other people to buy stalk for no reason other than you being rich(not including preferred stock). No one is going to buy common stock (or at least shouldn't because it's not a good idea) because the only thing they'd be buying is part ownership of your balance that they can't touch unless it grows. It's kinda a circular logic.

As for preferred stock there seems to be some intensive because you will make money off the dividends but because you (as a kinda figure or empty company) that only makes money buy selling itself is like inflating a balloon that will pop after awhile. No new stocks sold makes it a pyramids scheme. Eventually your stock market will fail and this is probably why Silas has in the past blocked these. It essentially is pyramid scheme that will only support people on the top until it collapses.

Another reason this idea is not viable as a stable stock market is because your balance determines the value of your stock. If you spend any money at all or happen to go broke for some reason or get fined by the guard/mods/admin/owner your stock prices will decrease. Peoples trust in you will fall causing them to sell and further decrease the value of your stock.

The only way this can work to some degree is if you don't touch your own balance and you add money to your own balance by a considerable amount. Otherwise this can be seen as w way for you to get rich especially if you start embezzling money.

I hope this give you and others perspective on how stock markets work and I'm open to any feedback about what I have just said.

One more thing I wanted to add is if for any reason you get banned your stock drops to 0 instantly. It's simply not a trustworthy stock. I guess as long as you disclose this information and allow player to make that choice then I guess in some way it's fair. But your behavior in game and on the forums can also effect your stock.

One Idea that I have that could possible take some of these effects away is making a faction and putting all the money in there. Having some Officers that would take your place if something happened to you then they could take over. It could also help if you made a business faction to help put money in the faction balance over time.

Mitt I'm currently not interested in going into business. Take that to the bank and cash it... or post it on your news. Your choice.

Thanks for the feedback Dogtag.

The number of stocks that I have said that is up for sale if they are all bought would give a profit to all that invested on day one of the tradings for common stock purchases.  Also, the more I earn before it goes live the more value the stocks have.  I am only planning on keeping the same amount of purchasable stocks unless I do a stock split to lower the costs of the stock.

I do like the idea of the faction idea, but I would have to put people that I trust in it so they just don't take the money.  This is the main reason why I wanted it to be on my account.  I also said in my post that I would notify if I make a purchase of ~25k or greater.

Here are some stats from my excel sheet:

I have ownership of 2750 preferred stock and 9500 common stock (Yes, I have the money to buy these before opening day with plenty of money leftover).

Ownership is .507142857 for me and the rest of the investors' total ownership is .492857143.

With all of the stocks bought, here are the stats:

Me- Preferred Stock total = $245583.4071 and Common Stock total = $282793.0143 - TOTAL = $528376.4214

Everyone else- Preferred Stock total = $200931.8786 and Common Stock total = $312560.7 TOTAL = $513492.5786

With costs of each stock being:

Preferred: 89.30305714

Common: 29.76768571

This is of course with my current assets of 1066869.

I will always be earning money every day I log on, so the stocks more than likely will always go up even if it is just a little bit.  At the very lease, i would do on a day that I cannot really get on is vote and open up crates or sell crates

Also, if my balance does go down, the stock value will as well so people may want to buy then (Buy low, sell high).  I do agree that it would be bad for current investors but over time it can be earned back by doing money making stuff on the server.  It would take about a month or less to get back to 1 million if all of it was spent today

With the advice of Dogtag, I am going to make a faction for the stock market.  I will pay for the stocks that I would have ownership into the faction.  Money earned from my account, HeadlessCowboy, will be adding to the balance of the income I earn.  The stocks that people can buy are going to be a fixed amount.

The faction will be conducting business to earn money.

Just remember before anyone buys stocks to include your disclaimer and risks the buyers agree to when buying stock. Also I would suggested making a planner when you decide to fluctuate the value of your stock that way no one can accuse you of fraud or favoritism. If Silas approves I would share the planner with him.

Yeah, forgot to add the disclaimer in my last post in this thread, thanks for reminding me.

I am up for creating a planer to share with Silas.  I would make it at least 1 week in advance for when it will start the week that it is fluctuating.  I am also up for silas to set limits on how much the stocks can fluctuate from one day to the next.  I would have to make sure I have enough money to do the fluctuating for the week so as a plan to solve that issue is to have a backup plan for the day(s) that the planner isn't going to work sent in advance (1-3 days); however, it cannot change from increasing value to decreasing value.
