Live Map
#1
I think we should get rid of faction claimed areas (the parts highlighted in red, including the red flag) on the live map so it's harder to find bases, and you have to walk around instead of just following some coordinates. We would have to set a world border, but I don't think that would be too much of an issue. Maybe every 2-3 months we could reset the free world so we can get a fresh start and explore new things. I think this could help fix the issue of people exploiting the live map in order to kill players. So what I'm trying to say is; let's make the live map less OP.

It is not exploiting the live map when you use it to find and kill players, that is the best part of the live map.

If a base cannot be found/raided there's little point in factions. I believe Silas considered all the pros/cons at the time of implementing the live map (although his opinion could of changed now) and it does add an extra element to the game once your free/top rank.

Tips to consider when in free.

Sneak where possible.
Act like everyone is watching.
Make your base small and out of obsidian to slow raiders down
Maybe don't claim the land to avoid pointing out claims/bases (risk people seeing you at that part of the map and visiting)
Travel as far out as you can. I'm talking several days worth of traveling. (determined people will still go to the effort to get there though)
Use the nether to move further out (1 block travelled in the nether is 8 blocks overworld)
Use of enderpearls and elytra can help you travel more quickly
Always watch the live map (both overworld and nether) for people coming to attack you
Only add trusted players to your faction and allow them to your base
