Well where do I start.
The economy is one of the most basic things on MCP when it comes to being a classic prison. You collect things, you sell them, you rankup and it has always been like this.
Sure there have been thoughts about potential economy changes such as making money physical a few months ago. Ultimately we have never settled on some major changes for two main reasons:
Firstly we honestly haven't put too much thought into changing the economy to something else, we've just never really focuses on it.
The second reason may have something to do with this. MCP is a fairly complex server with its additions as far as classic prisons go. When adding/changing the system we'd have to make it simple where anyone can use it without having to stop and think. Things on MCP seem a bit cluttered at the moment and we're looking to fix that.
We're aware of inflation on MCP and honestly compared to the past MCP is much better off in terms of economy. For example we've been on V5 for about 6 months if I recall and there is only 90 million in the economy and the top player has 8 million. When compared to the past this is impressive. Players before V4/V5 had up to 30 million and money had very little value. One of the main differences is that when introducing V5 we did the silent donator nerf so not as much money was coming in through there, along with the experience & difficulty changes players have not been collecting enough money. When you think of the ever increasing amount of lifetime donators & players I'd say we're doing pretty well for keeping a balanced eco.
We're always looking for more ways to drain the economy that doesn't involve major reworks or adding a new pointless rank (there may be more ranks in the future but they'll have a purpose).
Ideally we'd be able to reduce the amount of money in the server without major changes to the economy as right now it's basic and everyone can understand it.
This does not mean we'd be completely against the changes in the future. So here's my opinion on your ideas:
Taxes:
When it comes to taxes this is something I've wanted for a long time but it has never had a simple clean way of being added. Judging by the chestshop broadcast you can see we support this idea.
If some way to add tax to players can be added we're all ears. The main point is we don't want players to feel like they're needlessly having money taken away without purpose.
Option two (we'll call it dynamic economy):
A dynamic economy is the holy grail if gaming economies but is the most fragile and impossible to create ones. I've wanted an idea like this for ages but it's honestly too impossible to simply, efficiently, and fairly create. A dynamic economy would be great for a larger non prison server but when it comes to a prison it doesn't really fit in/is not worth the effort as cool as it would be. A great example of this economy is on the internet game Lords of war and money as it shows how it can work for a large community. If CDGS ever is huge this is something we would consider as a more serious option.
Option three:
"This is a horrible idea" horrible ideas can be cool and if we were to do a dynamic economy this would likely be a feature. I've always wanted an MCP account to track/spend money on the server with, however it's just not really feasible.
Option four:
This would remove the key factor of being a classic prison, and once again it comes down to the simplicity of how a prison server works. It also would be a huge huge project to change everything up. The closest we'd come to removing the economy in such a way would be to have a bartering system or physical money.
Thanks for the ideas, they'll be considered further but are not likely to happen besides the fact server inflation may need to be address as this map ages and money stocks up. We're always open to more ideas.
