Alright I know that my ideas aren't going to be able to perfect anything but they will definitely improve the server as a whole.
My first issue with mcp right now is the factions aspect. I know this is a prison server not a factions server, but currently the entire factions aspect of the server that makes mcp so great is a bit of a joke. Im not saying that you need to invest all of your time into making a great factions experience, because thats not going to be something that will effect the new players. (which is the ones that matter to the server atm) All i ask is that you add a freaking world border. A player can simply travel out a few million blocks and build a home without a shred of fear of being raided. Currently the only way to raid someone without an incredible amount of luck is to inside raid, which i personally love because it adds to the feel of prison. (scheming and such) But there really isn't much for people rank free+ to do right now. I saw astral suggest that we add a form of daily taxing for anyone who owned a plot, which i thought was a great idea. The only issue is that players just wouldn't buy plots anymore. You can currently store all of your stuff far away in the free world and would easily be able to avoid any taxing. Also if not a little factions what else are you to do at rank free+ right now. All that the older players have been doing is riot, die, rage quit, and then take it out on new players. Which again isn't good because joining a server and getting spam killed after your anti pvp timer runs out is not a very good way to start on a server.
My second issue is in the layout of the map. Don't get me wrong i love zeedin's maps and as an older player find them very well made and easy to navigate. But as i've been showing newer players around i've noticed that they seem to be confused with everything that's going on, and unsure about where they can and cannot go, and why. All of the areas appear large and ominous to a new player, and it seems that newer players are very good about not knowing where things are. I think another big reason of this is the courtyard right in the middle of the blocks. I think that it would be better to rely on the other plot wing and make it easier to navigate from a new players point of view. This obviously isn't an issue you can address now but i think it would be good to think about new players when building the next maps.
My third issue would be the lack of staff on the server. Currently if a new player joins the server and asks a question they are either insulted, or given a poor tour around the prison. The server needs someone active who is both good at, and enjoys to help new players. And also i have noticed that new players seem to stick around longer if they are met by an active and good staff member. I would say one of the most important things for mcp to do right now is get a very good mod. Currently there isn't a mod, and most of the past mods on mcp weren't very interested in helping the community, instead they were constantly trying to find reasons to mute players they didn't like. (cough cough mit was a bad mod) You guys really need to think about who is on your staff and why they should be in that position. (also if there actually is a mod right now then i haven't seen them which further proves my point that we need a GOOD mod.)
My fourth issue is with guards. Guarding is an exciting idea until you become guard and realize how boring it is. Guards have very little to do so they are usually inactive, or just trying to cause a riot. Some guards will randomly taze prisoners they are friends with just for fun, but also jump in front of someone who is just randomly hitting the ground just so they can start some pvp. No matter how good your guard is they are going to start screwing around because of how terribly boring guarding is. Guards need something to keep them entertained, online, and on task. I've racked my brain for whatever that something is but i have no idea so that ones up to you guys.
My fith issue is how useless pvp has become. With the high prices of p4 and insane repair costs most players seem to be cowering in non-pvp avoiding any possibility of losing their precious gear. And the concept of rioting is out the window because 1 you would have to find a guard online, and 2 you would have to be very rich on the server. I remember when you would get a guards armor after killing them and players would sometimes even riot in chain. Guard armor proved to be very useful in mcp a while back and killing a guard was worth while. Now you are losing materials just to fight a guard. Guards currently drop some gold, maybe a tazer charge if you're lucky, a roid sometimes, and a little bit of xp. All of those items are very useful to the players on mcp, but you're not going to get them easily. During the fight you'll break your armor which you can repair with xp, but it'll take way more than you'll get from the guard, or with money, but it'll cost more than you can sell those guard diamonds for. And sometimes you're going to have to waste tazer charges just to slow a guard down. Riots have just become a way for older players to flex their muscles and show of their might, rather than a worth while thing to do for good gear. Also player pvp is out the window too because everyone pvp hops so its just a durability waste. (and even if you do kill someone a troll in /d with pvp toggle will swoop in for the stuff)
My sixth issue is server activity. I remember when i joined the server the first thing i did was walk into pvp as a guard died ontop of me and i got all their stuff. It was a fantastic way to start on the server because not only did I have something pretty good that was already mine which i had stolen (i was made for prison >) but i also immediately got a feel that this was going to be a challenging high risk server. And that's the type of thrill that makes new players stay. Now someone will log on to see 2 people silently doing parkour. And then immediately leave because this server obviously doesn't have a player base. Silas you said in points comment that you've noticed more people will be online and active and having fun when you are on doing the same. And i can't express how crucial it is that that happens. Not only is it nice to join the server and be welcomed by the owner, but also just seeing some of the higher ranked people messing around is going to make you want to get better so you can join them in the future.
My final issue with the server is this lousy economy! If you're going to fix the economy you're going to have to piss off some of the older players, but it will make the server more fun all together. The most important thing you could do right now is drop emerald prices, by a lot. someone could easily log on during the night, mine for a few hours and get 500k. If you drop the prices of diamonds and emeralds considerably not only will you stop people from getting too rich in the future, buy you'll also make everyones emerald and diamonds stashes far less valuable. This will be good because 1 economy problem fixed. 2 people are going to start trading items for smaller deals rather than using /bal which is perfect for prison server because it makes it easier to scam people. You may be against scaming people but its part of prison, and is one of the things that attracts people to prison servers. Not only do you have to out pvp, out gear, and out team other players. You also have to out think them. So please just drop emerald prices.
Its like 1 am right now when I'm writing this so i understand it probably has some grammar mistakes but idc so keep it to yourselves. Also this is just what i could think of right now. Im sure ill have more suggestions for the server in the future. Also any players who may actually be reading this you should also try writing some suggestions for silas, zeedin, (and sort of astral and geo idk). It helps them to improve a server which is very much in need right now. If any of you guys want to talk about anything else to improve the server just let me know and i'll be happy to help in any way I can! Good night ;^)
