Free world Size & Dynmaps? - DogTag93 - Nov 29th, 2017 I wanted to open up a discussion about the size of free world and how Dynamic Maps effects it. I'm hoping to get feedback and opinions on what others think of it as well. As it is currently since the reset a limit of 40k blocks is any direction is the current limit (for a world dimension of 80k x 80x) and from what I can gauge from word of mouth that it is slowly going to expand by 10k every month. This has been done in my belief to cut back on storage space on the server which does make a lot of sense. However I believe this will negatively effects the behavior of players interning into the free world because of how easy it for players to close the distance between spawn and where people set up bases, especially if they use the nether to get there. Within 5k blocks you can go anywhere in the free world just by using the nether. I would suggest getting rid of dynamic maps if the size of the map is to remain small. This way there is way more security and peace of mind for players to build and utilizes the freeworld. Finding peoples bases would also be more rewarding, there would be more of them and there would be a higher chance of finding some really good loot because people have a higher sense of security to put away some really good stuff. As it is now if someone is to make a base anyone can track it just by using dynmaps and getting into that base (especially for veterans) can be pretty simple. The only way to protect your base is to make a box and cover it in layers of water and lava. I think this ruins the level of creativity that could go into the free world. I personally have no interest in spending hours making box faction homes that someone can easily raid anyways. Another point I would like to make is I believe getting rid of Dynmaps would increase the performance of the server. Back when I used to run smaller servers I remember them using up a lot of memory and resources but for all I know that could have changed now or the current server isn't effected that much by the plugin. Thoughts and dissenting opinion welcome! Re: Free world Size & Dynmaps? - Coolskate2449 - Nov 29th, 2017 Free world is pretty much pointless at this point, honestly, Dynamic map just makes raiding so easy its not even funny, I feel like dynamic map should be removed to be honest if we are going to keep this 40kx40k thing. Then again thats my opinion, Re: Free world Size & Dynmaps? - DogTag93 - Nov 30th, 2017 Correction, the world is 40k by 40k. Re: Free world Size & Dynmaps? - Maelonic - Nov 30th, 2017 is it now? I thought it was 20k by 20k Re: Free world Size & Dynmaps? - DogTag93 - Nov 30th, 2017 (Nov 30th, 2017, 12:18 PM)Maelonic link Wrote: is it now? I thought it was 20k by 20k If you look on the Dynmaps you can travel 20k blocks in any direction from the spawn. Re: Free world Size & Dynmaps? - Cpt_PandaPantz - Nov 30th, 2017 I do have my agree and disagreements with this, but for this point in time I agree with turning off the dynmap until the map is much larger. having such a short map with dynmap will deeply impact any faction base which is built. |
